The court ruled today (Sunday), by majority opinion, that former member of the Knesset Amichai Shikli may run on the Likud list in the elections to the 25th Knesset.

In addition, it unanimously decided to reject the petition against the Central Election Committee's decision and to approve the candidacy of former Knesset member Idit Silman in Likud.

Eight judges qualified Shikley's candidacy, except for Judge Grosskopf who voted against the decision.

The Likud party appealed Shikli's disqualification to the Central Election Commission, which claimed that the right-wing party did not split in accordance with the law.

The party said that the decision to disqualify Shikli because he allegedly resigned near his retirement, was made "without any express authority in law."
