Taipei-Sana
An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale hit Hualien County on the east coast of Taiwan today.
The US Geological Survey said that the quake occurred 69 km east of Hualien, at a depth of 17.9 km below the surface of the earth, but there were no reports of casualties, material damage, or tsunami warnings.
Taiwan is located near the intersection of two tectonic plates in the South China Sea, and is prone to earthquakes, where more than 100 people were killed in a devastating earthquake that struck the south of the island in 2016.
