Deputy Director of the Rubin Design Bureau for Foreign Economic Relations and Military-Technical Cooperation Andrei Baranov announced that the submarines of the future designed by the Bureau will be of lower sizes and higher performance.

RIA Novosti quoted Baranov as saying today that these submarines will be equipped with a larger quantity of weapons, expressing his belief that there is a possibility to reduce the displacement of new submarines, however, it is difficult to completely dispense with the large sizes because the use of submarines depends on them.

He pointed out that large submarines could gradually become public platforms in the future on which the largest possible number of different technical means, including weapons, could be placed.

According to him, we can see in the design of the unmanned Russian submarine “Arktor” a general vertical hatch for large and small underwater devices, and on both sides of it ports for large devices, adding, “All this will allow the submarine to work more efficiently from the maximum safe distance.”

Baranov added, “The Russian Navy is providing the multipurpose strategic Borei submarines with the latest nuclear submarines of Project 955 and Project 885 Yasen.”
