Researchers from the Bioinformatics Group at the Russian AIRI Institute of Artificial Intelligence have discovered a program that identifies the binding sites of antibodies to the proteins of viruses and bacteria.

“So far, a number of different tools have been developed to study these proteins in the context of their interaction with antibodies, and we are trying to create an appropriate base for studying them using modern artificial intelligence models, as the current version of the program created by researchers,” said Tatiana Shashkova, head of researchers at the institute, in an interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestia. (Sima) is his beginning.”

Shashkova indicated that obtaining the results of the work through this program, which was developed in close cooperation with the scientists of the Gamalia Center, is a complex and time-consuming matter, but it would benefit from it in biotechnology institutes and companies working in the field of creating vaccines and drugs to treat viral and bacterial diseases.

According to the researchers, the proteins to be analyzed are loaded into the Sima program in the form of an amino acid chain or a three-dimensional structure.

It is reported that the “Sima” program determines which amino acid residues form the epitopes and the extent of their interaction with antibodies, and this information can later be used to select the most promising protein parts to add to the vaccine, as well as to search for new therapeutic antibodies.
