Last Sunday afternoon in Gibraleón (Huelva) was a day to reserve the desire for leisure, because on Wednesday the fair begins in the town of 12,500 inhabitants.

Even so, the afternoon was an invitation to have a chat on the terraces of bars such as

El Apoderado

or

La Almazara,

located just 300 meters away.

In those was Javier Martín, barely 32 years old, and three other friends when MAAD ran over them with his car.

Martín took the worst part and died a victim of the injuries caused by the collision.

Then, he headed for the second establishment and repeated the attack, but backtracked against three other neighbors.

The alleged perpetrator of the events was arrested three hours later and is now admitted to a mental health area of a hospital in Huelva, waiting to be brought to justice.

In Gibraleón they confess “stunned”, according to its mayor Lourdes Martín, just one day after the multiple outrage.

"It could have happened to anyone because, as far as we know, there is no relationship between the victims and the author," explains the councilor.

The Huelva Civil Guard seems to move in the same hypothesis, as confirmed by the Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, pointing out "the attack was not directed at any specific person."

The detainee had "numerous antecedents", as Fernández added, and had been released from prison a few days before the events.

It was at 4:30 p.m. when the first neighbors called the 112 Emergency telephone number. They warned of a first hit in the vicinity of Avenida de Andalucía de Gibraleón, after a vehicle invaded the terrace area of a bar.

There, at the tables of

El Apoderado

was Martín with three other friends.

The man – known in the town for his affable character and “for being a hard worker”, according to the councilor – suffered multiple head injuries and died.

The rest of his companions had to be hospitalized, but due to less serious injuries.

MAAD drove his car towards Palo Dulce Avenue, just 300 meters from the first establishment.

There he passed by the terrace of the

La Almazara

bar and immediately backed up to attack three other victims who were sitting at one of the tables in the establishment.

“They thought he was doing the maneuver to park.

They did not expect it to run over them, ”explains Councilor Martín, who has called all the victims between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning to inquire about their condition.

It was in this second outrage when the detainee said "you are no longer going to speak ill of me", according to what the owner of the bar told Martín.

The suspect ended up arrested about three hours after the outrages in the neighboring municipality of San Juan del Puerto, thanks to the identification of the driver and the car that the eyewitnesses of the event made to the agents of the Civil Guard and the Local Police.

The six injured were admitted to different hospitals in the area with injuries of varying degrees.

This Monday, five of them have already been discharged and only one continues to receive hospital medical care, but on the ground, as explained by the delegate of the Government of the Andalusian Government in Huelva, Bella Verano.

“[The author's] mother is broken with grief.

Apparently, her son suffered from problems and did not follow the treatment he had, ”explained the mayor, who has also been able to speak with the mother of the main suspect.

MAAD, approximately 40 years old, is currently admitted to a hospital mental health area, as confirmed by Verano.

There he is expected to serve the maximum of 72 hours of detention, before going to court for a judge to determine whether or not he goes to prison pending trial.

Meanwhile, in Gibraleón they have decreed two days of official mourning and have suspended the acts prior to the San Lucas fair that is scheduled to begin next Wednesday.
