Summary.
A Minister of Justice… Soon judged.
On October 3, the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR) ordered a trial against Éric Dupond-Moretti for “illegal taking of interest”.
A first in the history of the Fifth Republic.
To fully understand the legal troubles of the current Keeper of the Seals, we must go back to his former life as a lawyer.
The famous criminal lawyer had had trouble with several magistrates, in particular those who analyzed his telephone records without his knowledge in the investigation into the wiretapping affair, targeting former President Nicolas Sarkozy and his lawyer.
Éric Dupond-Moretti is accused of having wanted to take advantage of his new function as minister to settle accounts with these magistrates, by initiating administrative investigations against them.
Already very unpopular with the judges, the minister faces numerous calls to resign, but he is supported by the President of the Republic.
Source code traces the thread of accusations against the Keeper of the Seals with Timothée Boutry, journalist with the Parisian police-justice service.
