Garmisch-Partenkirchen – The shock of the residents should still be deep: A fire in a double garage on Archstrasse in Garmisch-Partenkirchen led to a large-scale fire brigade operation on Tuesday morning (October 11) at around 8.30 a.m. Luckily nobody was hurt. The property damage is enormous: the police estimate this at around 50,000 euros. It is still unclear why the fire broke out. The police have started the investigation.
The garage is part of the mother-child house run by the Catholic Women's Social Service.
The approximately 30 residents had to temporarily leave the adjacent residential building for safety reasons.
However, the forces of the Garmisch fire brigade that arrived very quickly managed to extinguish the fire, which reportedly broke out in an area of the garage and resulted in heavy smoke development.
The building contained, among other things, prams and bicycles as well as building materials that were stored there.
This also included a solar thermal system, which should now only have scrap value.
In total, more than 40 firefighters with five vehicles went to the scene of the incident in addition to the BRK.
Six respirators were also deployed, which lasted almost two hours.
The specialists not only fought the fire, they also climbed onto the garage roof to look out for embers.
