Amazon plans to invest €1 billion in electric cars over the next five years.
In the future, however, parcels could also come by cargo bike.
The electric car is becoming more and more popular, so the Tesla Model Y was the most frequently registered car in Germany in September.
Companies have long understood that electromobility is the future.
This also applies to the mail order company Amazon, which has announced a billion-dollar investment.
In the next five years, the online retailer in Europe wants to invest one billion euros in the electrification of its delivery and goods traffic.
400 million euros are to flow to Germany alone, as Amazon explained on Monday.
In the USA, Amazon is already using an electric transporter specially developed by Rivian.

Electric car: Amazon invests one billion euros
To date, around 3,000 electric cars from the in-house delivery service have been delivering Amazon packages across Europe.
By 2025 there should be more than 10,000.
In the USA, the mail order company relies on electric cars specially developed by Rivian.
The company also intends to use 1,500 electric trucks – such as the Mercedes-Benz eActros Long Haul – to transport goods from its dispatch centers.
500 of them are to roll over German roads.

Charging stations and green electricity systems are also planned.
In larger cities, Amazon parcels could increasingly be delivered on foot or by cargo bike in the future.
According to the company, there are currently such "micro hubs" for deliveries without four-wheeled vehicles in a good 20 European cities.
By 2025 it should be twice as many.
Electric car: Amazon aims for net zero emissions
These measures should help to reduce Amazon's net carbon emissions to zero by 2040.
The decarbonization of the transport network is one of the most challenging areas, said CEO Andrew Jassy according to the announcement. "To achieve net-zero emissions here, significant and sustainable investments are required."

Amazon isn't the only company using electric cars to deliver packages, however.
For a long time, Deutsche Post built Stromer itself.
In Austria, too, the post is delivered in an environmentally friendly way with electric cars.
Meanwhile, the US Postal is sticking to the combustion engine.
