In Freising, young people abuse the cargo bike rental system to compete in races with the vehicles.
For the OB sees only one solution to end this.
Freising
– It is a relatively strange message that Susanne Günther (Greens) brought up last Monday at the meeting of the Freising finance and administration committee.
Recently, young people at Stein-Park have been having extensive races with the new cargo bikes stationed there - at least that's what Günther had been told.
Such an unusual race is possible during the first 30 minutes, during which the cargo bikes can be borrowed and tested completely free of charge.
In plain language, this means that the young people run a race in the immediate vicinity for almost half an hour, log on to the bike again in good time - and log off again as soon as possible.
Not only would road safety suffer, but the youngsters would also block Radl for serious customers, emphasized Günther.
The OB sees only one way to fix the problem
Peter Warlimont (SPD) also observed similar scenarios: "One is driving and the other is sitting in the front." it was just "fun rides".
Eva Bönig (Greens) brought a completely different aspect into the debate: the fact that amateur racing drivers are minors.
In their estimation, many of these would be 12 years old at most, which could pose a problem in criminal proceedings.
(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)
"You have to look at the dimensions of the whole thing," was the suggestion from Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher, who also emphasized that the bikes were there for hire and that, to his knowledge, there was no age limit for them.
One way to prevent such races would actually only be to collect costs from minute 1, for example by billing by credit card.
12-year-olds probably don't have that yet.
