New official statistics reveal that the death rate for firearms in the United States rose to record levels between 2020 and 2021.
Statistics prepared by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and published by the New York Times showed that homicides and suicides involving the use of weapons reached an all-time high in the United States, rising by more than 8 percent.
81 percent of murders and 55 percent of suicides last year involved the use of firearms, according to the statistics, which are higher than 79 percent and 53 percent in 2020, respectively.
Experts believe that the high rate of murders in the United States may be a reflection of the breakdown in relations between Americans and the police, while other factors, including economic pressures and the spread of a culture of violence and carrying weapons, are behind this increase.
