Schongau – In the course of rising electricity prices, high costs are also expected at the ice rink.

However, the city council did not want to set an upper limit for the city subsidy in its most recent meeting.

The city's electricity contract runs until the end of the year, Mayor Falk Sluyterman said at the meeting.

It is foreseeable that there will be a significant increase in costs afterwards.

Since 2011, the city has given TSV Schongau an annual subsidy of 65,000 euros for the operation of the ice rink, explained Bettina Schade, manager at the town hall.

40,000 euros would be used for the electricity costs, 25,000 euros for the trainer flat rate, so Schade.

But the city also provided additional support for the ice rink.

Around 310,000 euros from 2014 to the present day, says Schade.

Due to the current development of electricity prices, it is not foreseeable what costs the ice rink will cause in the current season, Schade continued.

"The city's financial leeway is limited," she made clear.

The administration is therefore proposing an upper limit for this year's municipal subsidy.

The problem with the whole thing: The ice cream is made, the season has long since begun.

Even the Bavarian Ice Sports Association does not have any significant, short-term energy-saving measures in view.

On average, about 60,000 to 65,000 euros were paid for electricity per year, according to EAS board member Franz Andergassen, who attended the meeting together with TSV board member Ralf Konstantin.

Making ice cream is the most power-intensive.

"Around 60 to 65 percent will be used by December," says Andergassen.

"We save where we can," he also made it clear that more is not possible.

"You can't get the ice with less."

Gregor Schuppe (ALS) asked about so-called artificial ice.

He also wanted to know what would happen if EAS stopped playing the games.

Then a deposit of 6,000 euros is due, explained Andergassen.

Plastic webs have often been discussed, he said on the subject.

However, it has not yet been clarified whether sport is even possible on these and how long they would last.

"They also cost," says Andergassen.

It is difficult for her to vote for the whole year, Ilona Böse (SPD) made it clear.

According to Andergassen, a decision must be made by March at the latest, for the whole year.

You run a public sports facility there.

This costs around 100,000 euros per year.

Andergassen referred to Peiting, where the ice stadium costs up to 350,000 euros per year and three ice masters have now been hired.

The question for Böse was: "Can we afford all these facilities in the future?" She also added that Peiting does not have a swimming pool, but an outdoor pool.

"If we close, we won't open anymore," said TSV boss Konstantin when the volunteers left in this case.

Andergassen and Konstantin pointed out that the ice stadium is run on a voluntary basis as a public institution.

The majority of the occupancy would make up the rest of the schools, so the two.

"Without volunteers, we couldn't afford a facility like this," says Sluyterman.

The head of the town hall made it clear that the discussion should be: "How do we get through the energy crisis together?" In the end, it was agreed at the most recent meeting to drive on sight.

The issue is expected to come up again in January.
