An explosion at the Crimea bridge in Russia as a result of a fuel tank fire.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced today (Wednesday) that it arrested five Russians and three Ukrainian and Armenian citizens in connection with the explosion on the Crimean bridge on Saturday, the "Interfax" news agency reported.

According to the report, the explosion was organized by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and its commander Kirill Budnov.

In a Telegram post, the FSB claimed that a truck bomb had been arranged by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

The bomb was hidden inside coils with polyethylene films that are used for construction.

In total, according to the report, the bomb weighed 22.77 tons.

The Russian security service also claimed that the bomb was launched from Odessa in southern Ukraine in early August with the help of citizens from Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia.

Between September 29 and October 3, the bomb left Armenia for Russia, went through customs and arrived in a truck registered in Georgia.

After the truck arrived in Krasnodar in Russia, it was sent on October 7 with the help of five Russians whose identity is known - to the Crimean Peninsula.

"On that day, the Russian citizen Shim Yusovov loaded the cargo onto a truck that left for Simferopol, and on October 8 at 06:03 in the morning, the explosion was heard on the Crimean bridge."

A Ukrainian official dismissed the Russian claims about the blast as "nonsense".

"All the activity of the FSB and the investigative commission is nonsense," said Interior Ministry spokesman Andrey Yusov.

He added that the two bodies are "a fake that serves Putin's regime, so we do not intend to respond to their statements in the future."

This morning the British Ministry of Defense published an assessment according to which the Iranian drones used by Russia, the Shahad-136, are "slow and fly at low altitude, which makes it easier to intercept them by conventional air defense systems.

It may be that the Russians only succeed when they attack with several drones at the same time."

It also states that "despite a reported range of 2,500 km, the Shahad-136 can carry a small dedicated payload, so it is unlikely that it will fulfill the purpose for which Russia is using it.

The lack of a reliable and accurate attack capability is one of Russia's problems in Ukraine."
