In conjunction with the continuation of apple harvesting operations in As-Suwayda for the current season, amid high production estimates, the branch of the Syrian Trade Corporation in As-Suwayda continues to receive apples, according to the branch manager, Rabie Ghanem, within the possibilities available for shopping and storing the crop, as the quantities received to date have reached about one thousand tons.

Ghanem indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the approved prices for apples ranged between 1650 per kilogram for the first and second types, 1250 and 700 pounds for the third type.

The Executive Director of the Specific Cooperative Society for the Marketing and Processing of Vegetables and Fruits in Sweida, Engineer Hossam Ballan, confirmed that the association has developed a plan to receive 150 tons of apples for the current season, as it has worked during the past few days with contracted workshops to harvest the crop from the fields of farmers affiliated with it, and transfer it to the refrigeration unit of the Farmers Union To store, sort and market it successively throughout the season.

According to the Assistant Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, the quantity of production for the current season is good, and relatively better than last season, amid preliminary estimates with a production of more than 59 thousand tons, pointing out that the total areas planted with apples reached 15,956 hectares, including more than 2.8 million fruitful trees, Most of them are concentrated in the areas of Dahr el-Jabal, Arman, Sala, Ma'falah, Qanawat, Miamas, and Namira Shahba.

Shehayeb indicated that the directorate allocates diesel at an industrial price in the amount of 400 liters per month for apple storage units “refrigerators”, within production sites that suffer from long electrical rationing, in order to ensure the continuity of their work after conducting the necessary inspection by the directorate’s stakeholders on storage units, provided that they are not less than The quantities of apples stored within each unit are about 25 tons.

A member of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Association in Suwayda, farmer Atef Al-Ashqar, indicated that he has an estimated production of 30 tons for the current season, of which he sold 10 tons to the guarantee and 9 tons its market to Syria for trade at acceptable prices. External marketing in light of high production estimates in the governorate.

A number of farmers, including Karam Chehayeb, who owns an orchard of 30 dunums in the Basta area in Dahr el-Jabal, said that his production quantities are estimated for this season at about 36 tons, which is better than last season, considering that marketing prices are low, and his solution is to store the production in refrigerators for later disposal. In the markets, farmer Shawki Ashti pointed to the need to work on developing the food manufacturing process, and finding new foreign markets to dispose of the surplus.
