Elected to the French Academy in chair No. 19 in 2008, Jean-Loup Dabadie died on May 24, 2020. Even before we know the date of the election for his succession, Benoît Duteurtre was one of the first candidates to apply for the chair left vacant: his letter dates back to June 30, 2022. His opponents were then named Emmanuel Cruvelier, Eduardo Pisani, Éric Dubois, Michel Carassou and Hedi Majri.
One could think that Duteurtre would win, even if Quai de Conti nothing is ever certain.
Then, on Thursday, October 13, the information reaches us: Frédéric Beigbeder is also a candidate for the chair of Dabadie.
Suffice to say that in the hushed world of the republic of letters, it's a (small) clap of thunder.
