Marin Sauvajon case: his attacker released after a sentence adjustment

The attacker, sentenced in May 2018, was to be released from prison in early 2023. This sentence adjustment avoids a “dry exit”, argues the public prosecutor of Roanne.


His aggression, ultraviolent and gratuitous, had shocked the whole of France.

On November 11, 2016, Marin Sauvajon - a 20-year-old law and political science student - was violently hit in the head by an individual armed with a crutch in Lyon.

Left for dead and plunged into a coma, he is now severely handicapped.

His wrong?

His attacker, 17 years old at the time of the events, was released in early October thanks to a sentence adjustment,

learned from the Roanne prosecutor's office, confirming information from France 3. This individual, originally from Vaulx-en - Velin and already convicted 21 times since 2012 for theft, violence and threats, was arrested on November 12, 2016 and then placed in pre-trial detention until his trial.

During the latter, before the Assize Court for Minors in Lyon in May 2018, he was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for

“violence with the use or threat of a weapon followed by mutilation or permanent disability”

This young man has made several requests for sentence adjustment before.

But this time, the prosecution did not appeal the - favorable - decision of the sentence enforcement judge, itself taken after "positive" opinions from representatives of the prison administration and prison services. integration and probation (SPIP).

The latter notably considered that the young man had done a real job on himself.

He was coming to the end of his sentence and was due to be released from prison in February 2023

With this sentence adjustment, he remains under the control of the judicial authority until the end of 2023. This makes it possible to avoid a dry exit at the end of which he would have had no accountability to justice

The attacker will in particular have to respond to summonses from a sentencing judge in the Côte-d'Or department, where he will live with his partner, prove that he is working or that he compensates the victim.
