The corona numbers in Munich are skyrocketing.

Health Minister Lauterbach is concerned about the situation in the hospitals.

Munich corona incidence with a huge leap up - Lauterbach expects action

Update from October 11, 10:35 a.m .:

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) commented on the situation in Munich in view of the rapidly increasing corona incidence in Munich (see update below): “There is no room for gloating here.

But the Oktoberfest reminds us: screaming and shouting in the interior maximizes aerosol transmission of corona." Lauterbach also predicts a problematic winter and sees the return of a measure as inevitable: "In winter it will be a big problem.

I firmly believe that we will not be able to avoid the obligation to wear masks in the interior."

Update from October 11, 7.45 a.m .:

Huge jump in the 7-day incidence in Munich.

As the Robert Koch Institute reports in its current figures, the corona incidence is 1497 on Tuesday. For comparison: yesterday it was 1024. The Oktoberfest is suspected to be behind the sharp increase, and the wave of illnesses after the Oktoberfest is also a concern for alarm in the Munich clinics.

First report from October 10th

Munich – The corona numbers in Munich reach a peak after the end of the Wiesn and are shockingly high compared to other major German cities.

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) took this as an opportunity to speak clearly in the direction of Munich and is extremely concerned about the current trend.

Munich: Corona numbers after the Wiesn are over 1000 – the number of unreported cases is probably very large

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), on Friday, October 7th, the Bavarian state capital cracked the 1000 mark for the 7-day incidence (1106.4).

On Monday, October 10th, with a value of 1024.7, the same is slightly declining, but the corona numbers are higher than they have been for a long time.

However, if you compare the development with that in Hamburg or Frankfurt, for example, the numbers in Munich also appear enormous.

The Hanseatic city currently has a 7-day incidence of 219.0, in Frankfurt am Main it is 442.2.

The connection between the exploding numbers and the Oktoberfest that recently ended is obvious, although not officially confirmed.

Before the start of the Oktoberfest, the incidence in Munich was constantly around 200. In addition, numbers are no longer reported to the RKI on weekends and many do not notice their corona infection or have it confirmed by a PCR test.

The number of unreported cases is therefore likely to be large.

Lauterbach criticizes Munich and is concerned about the situation in the hospitals

A few days ago, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach took the development in Munich as an opportunity to speak up on Twitter and criticize the city.

The latest figures are “a self-made catastrophe”, writes the politician and also suggests reintroducing a mask requirement indoors.

Lauterbach already complained about the lack of a protection concept during the Wiesn.

In the Munich hospitals, 552 beds are currently (as of October 7th) occupied with corona cases, 37 of which are in intensive care and 13 in intensive care.

Compared to the previous week, there are a total of 176 more occupied corona beds.

The increasing corona numbers and increased absences of clinic staff are already putting a strain on hospitals.

Corona: Söder is in favor of further easing

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), who has long exercised extreme caution when it comes to corona rules, recently spoke out in favor of further easing.

He called for the isolation to be shortened in the event of an infection and based on whether the person affected has symptoms.

In addition, the mask requirement after the plane should also fall in local public transport.
