Riots in East Jerusalem: the police arrested 23 suspects Israel today

A restless night in East Jerusalem:

The Israel Police arrested during the night (between Wednesday and Thursday) nine additional suspects who were involved in violent disturbances that occurred last night in East Jerusalem.

In the past day, the police arrested 23 suspects for violating public order and violent riots.

In the evening hours of Wednesday, violent disturbances began in a large number of neighborhoods and villages in the east of the city of Jerusalem and around Jerusalem.

These disturbances included throwing Molotov cocktails and stones, shooting fireworks, burning trash cans and tires, blocking roads in the east of the city and were dealt with and dispersed by the police and MGB forces.

These violent riots, carried out by masked rioters from East Jerusalem, were directed mainly at the police forces, and in some cases also at road users.

During the riots in Issawiya, two police officers were slightly injured and evacuated for medical treatment.

The disturbances in East Jerusalem continued into the night and were dispersed by the police a few hours ago.

The police and MGB forces that operated in the various centers for many hours used a variety of means to disperse the disturbances, including precise hits on the perpetrators of the disturbances and stone throwers.

These violent disturbances which continued into the night and which were concentrated in villages and neighborhoods in East Jerusalem also damaged the infrastructure, houses and property of the residents of the East of the city, for example a Molotov cocktail thrown at the forces led to the burning of a house in Issawiya.

The district police accompanied the events during the night as well, and in the past day the police arrested 23 suspects residents of East Jerusalem for violating public order by throwing stones, throwing Molotov cocktails and attacking policemen - most of them in disturbances that were in Issawiya, M.F. Shuafat and Tor and Bagin tonight and about half of them are minors.

During the activity of the Jerusalem district police and the MGB fighters, nine suspects were arrested in East Jerusalem at night, residents of Issawiya in their 20s. The suspects were arrested on suspicion of their involvement in disturbances that included throwing stones, firing fireworks and throwing explosives at the police forces last night.

These arrests join dozens of arrests of suspects arrested in recent days by police forces in East Jerusalem, and more arrests are expected in the future. In the meantime, the police opened an investigation that was assigned to the central unit in the Jerusalem district tonight, following the throwing of stones at a vehicle with family members traveling in the Beit Hanina area during Disorderly conduct at the scene, where two disorderly persons were arrested for questioning by Sheft station detectives.

Meanwhile, later today the police will continue to act as part of the increased operational preparation in the city for the security of the many visitors, the security of the Jerusalem march and the other various events taking place in the city.

The mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Leon, clarified this morning, contrary to the publications, that "not a single stone was thrown at him and no fireworks were fired."
