Lebanese President Michel Aoun announced this evening (Thursday) that Lebanon approves the deal with Israel on the maritime border.
According to him, the deal does not signify "any kind of normalization".
Aon also added that this is a "historic achievement" in which Lebanon regained 860 square kilometers of disputed territory, and that it will bring "stability on both sides of the border."
Aon's official announcement comes after the Israeli government also approved yesterday the principles of The maritime border agreement with Lebanon. "This is a major achievement for Israel's security, the security establishment made it clear to the cabinet and the government that the agreement provides the best answer to security needs.
The agreement improves security and removes the possibility of a flare-up with Hezbollah," said Lapid. "We built the agreement with the Americans so that the money does not reach Hezbollah." The
agreement was submitted last night for consideration by the Knesset for 14 days, after which the government will meet again to approve the agreement definitively. The Minister of the Interior Ayelet Shaked voted against and Communications Minister Yoaz Hendel abstained.

The agreement provoked opposition among the opposition, which Lapid attacked when he said: "When the agreement is put before the public, each and every one will be able to see for themselves what a historical achievement Israel has here, and how the false and poisonous propaganda that was spread about this agreement is completely disconnected from reality, intended only for political needs, and mainly made In the hands of people who have not seen the agreement and had no idea what is in it and what is not in it. We will invite all the heads of the opposition parties for an update and expose them for the first time to the details of the agreement."
