Five Russians enlisted to fight in Ukraine, as part of the mobilization ordered in September, died after joining the army, authorities said on Thursday (October 13th), after similar announcements which have multiplied in recent days.

Russian officials, however, do not specify the cause of these deaths, nor their location.

The press service of the Chelyabinsk region, quoted by the public agency TASS, confirmed the death of five people from this poor and industrial territory located in Western Siberia.

We will provide all necessary assistance to the family and loved ones of our fallen soldiers

," said the press service, promising to pay one million rubles (16,000 euros) for each deceased.

Drug overdose

The old woman, a Russian deputy, Maxime Ivanov, had told him that a mobilized man from the Chelyabinsk region had died of a drug “

overdose

” while he was training to go fight.

Since the announcement of a military mobilization in Russia on September 21, the Russian press and local officials have repeatedly reported the deaths of mobilized soldiers, mainly in the Urals and in Siberia.

On October 3, MP Maxime Ivanov claimed that three mobilized had died on a military base in the Sverdlovsk region.

According to him, one succumbed to a heart attack, another committed suicide and the last died of alcohol-related cirrhosis after being sent home.

The Kremlin has acknowledged “

errors

” in the mobilization, with cases of people being mobilized while suffering from illnesses or over the legal age to serve in the army.
