At Bayerischer Rundfunk, employees are on strike on Thursday.

Various unions had called for this.

They ask for more money.

Munich – There will be a strike at Bayerischer Rundfunk on Thursday, October 13th.

Various unions had called for this.

They demand more money for the employees.

Recently there had been frequent warning strikes at various ARD broadcasters.

The BR strike now also leads to program restrictions.

Warning strike at BR: Unions demand more money – previous offer “unacceptable”

The trade unions ver.di, BJV and “unisono – German Music and Orchestra Association” had called for the strike.

This emerges from a press release by Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Centrally, it is about more money in the ongoing collective bargaining, because of which there are currently also strikes at other ARD stations.

Ver.di, for example, is demanding an increase in income of 5.75 percent for twelve months and a relief package for the employees of the public broadcaster.

According to the BR, in the fifth round of negotiations at the end of September, “a comprehensive package of measures was offered that offers all employees rapid inflation compensation in the form of one-off payments of €2,400 to €2,600” and a “tariff increase of 2.8 percent by April 2023 with a term of 24 months," says the BR press release.

However, the Bavarian Journalists' Association (BJV) described the offer as "unacceptable".

Warning strike at Bayerischer Rundfunk: effects on the program

The warning strike also has an impact on the program of Bayerischer Rundfunk, even if, according to the broadcaster, attempts are made to keep the restrictions as low as possible.

In Bayern 2, the radio programs "notebook" and "radioWelt" will be replaced.

There are also restrictions on BR24 Radio with regard to cultural, business and stock market news.

On TV

the messages "BR24 in 100 seconds" at noon and in the afternoon are omitted.

Digital offers will also only be available to a limited extent.

The BR announced this in advance in its press release.

Further restrictions are possible, you can find out more about these on the BR website.

The program restrictions were meanwhile celebrated as a success by ver.di on Twitter:

BR interested in a solution: The framework of what is “financially feasible”

BR Administrative Director Albrecht Frenzel commented on the warning strikes.

He described strikes as the "undisputed right of trade unions".

But you have to be at the negotiating table.

"The offer from Bayerischer Rundfunk is a resolute step to alleviate the current additional burdens on its employees," says Frenzel.

We are prepared to negotiate within the framework of what is "financially feasible".

The next hearing is scheduled for October 19th.
