Velbert – Without a driver's license, with a blood alcohol content of 1.6 and on drugs, a 26-year-old man in Velbert (Mettmann district) crashed his Audi into a large telephone distribution box.
He then fled the scene of the accident and hid from the police in the trunk of his wrecked car.

The 26-year-old was driving the Audi in Velbert around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday evening.
On Nordstraße he lost control of his car near Höferstraße and went off the road.
The Audi crashed into a larger Telekom Internet and telephone distribution box, which was completely destroyed by the accident, as reported by 24RHEIN.
Passers-by then saw how the man reversed his car and fled the scene of the accident – in the opposite direction through a one-way street.
The witnesses alerted the police.
They found the car a short time later on the street "An der Mähre".
"However, there was initially no trace of the driver," said the Mettmann police.
That changed when the police opened the trunk of the Audi.
The drunk lay there and had tried to hide from the police.

A subsequent alcohol test showed 1.6 per thousand.
Police found an open bottle of liquor on the passenger seat of the car.
But not only that: the 26-year-old was also on drugs.
A rapid test was positive for amphetamine.
And the man didn't even have a driver's license.
The 26-year-old was then temporarily arrested and his Audi secured as evidence.
Several ads are now waiting for him, including driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, avoiding a traffic accident and driving without a license.
On Friday morning he left the station again - this time on foot.
The police estimate the property damage at around 25,000 euros.
