The Robert Koch Institute has not lost sight of the corona virus for two and a half years.

New figures show which mutation is setting the tone and how intensive care units are filling up.

Munich – The current phase of the corona pandemic is almost entirely dominated by BA.5.

This emerges from the current weekly report of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

According to this, the proportion of the omicron subvariant in calendar week 39 (September 26 to October 2) among all SARS-CoV-2 infections registered in Germany was almost 96 percent.

In addition, only BA.2 (two percent) and BA.4 (1.9 percent) achieve measurable values.

Striking: Among the sublines of BA.5, BF.7, which developed from BA.5.2.1, increased more.

Within a week, their share rose from almost nine to more than eleven percent.

The BA.2.75 sublines also recorded a significant increase, which now comes to one percent.

So half of BA.2.

Sublines of BA.2.75, BA.4.6 and BA.5 were included in the list of "Omicron subvariants under monitoring" by the WHO due to the increasing spread worldwide.

So they belong to the omicron subvariants, which are under special observation.

Among other things, it deals with transmissibility and the burden of disease.

RKI weekly report on Corona: More respiratory diseases than in the years before the pandemic

When checking the rate of respiratory diseases, the RKI uses the GrippeWeb web portal.

Here the numbers in calendar week 40 (October 3rd to 9th) remained stable, but with a value of 7.6 million cases they are significantly higher than the values at the same time of the year before the corona pandemic.

The rate is given as 9.1 percent.

The rate for children up to the age of 14 has fallen and for adults over the age of 15 it has risen.

For respiratory diseases related to Covid-19, the incidence is estimated at 1300 to 3100 per 100,000 population.

This means between 1.1 and 2.6 million SARS-CoV-2 infected people with symptoms.

In calendar week 40, between 0.3 and 0.6 percent of children and adolescents up to the age of 14 with acute respiratory symptoms contracted Covid-19, and among citizens aged 15 and over it was between 1.5 and 3.5 percent.

The number of doctor visits for acute respiratory diseases fell slightly compared to the previous week.

1900 medical consultations per 100,000 inhabitants were registered here.

This corresponds to 1.6 million visits to the doctor for acute respiratory diseases.

It is estimated that around 400,000 of these received an additional Covid-19 diagnosis.

Corona development according to the RKI: Only 12.9 percent of the operable intensive care beds are free

The hospitalization incidence for patients with a severe acute respiratory infection and a Covid-19 diagnosis is given as 5.4.

4,500 new patients were admitted - this is about calendar week 38 (September 19th to 25th). An increase can be seen in particular among citizens over the age of 60.

The hardest hit is the age group over 80.

Meanwhile, the DIVI intensive care register shows that in calendar week 40 the number of intensive care patients with a Covid 19 diagnosis was 1,668.

In the previous week there were 1309. A warning signal is the proportion of free intensive care beds in the total number of operable intensive care beds.

In reporting week 40, this was 12.9 percent.

Previously it was 14.9 and 14 percent respectively.

A value of ten percent is considered the limit value for the responsiveness of the clinics.
