Tegernsee – In Tegernsee, the half-way closure remains.
The general renovation of the Alpbach Bridge will last until December, originally October was planned.
The measure is half done, "however, it turns out to be significantly more time-consuming than desired," reports the Rosenheim State Building Authority.
The damage is greater and therefore more extensive work is necessary, and there are also delays in the work on relocating the local water pipe.
“When it comes to the renovation of bridges, not everything can always be planned in advance down to the last detail.
The extent of the necessary renovation often only becomes apparent when the bridge structure is uncovered," explains Zacharias Kleber, head of the Structural Engineering department at the Rosenheim State Building Authority.
The asbestos pollution on the bridge is no surprise, but it also means a lot of work.
From Monday (October 17th) the roadway is to be removed.
In order to safely remove the partially asbestos-containing layers in the pavement, an airtight housing is first constructed.
These and other safety measures such as extraction systems are intended to ensure that no harmful substances escape.
Maple has to go
In the meantime, it has also turned out that the Ahorn that remained near the bridge - despite protective measures - cannot be saved after all.
"Together with the commissioned tree expert, we came to the conclusion that the stability of the tree can no longer be guaranteed.
Unfortunately, the work at this point has to intervene in the root system of the tree more than we had hoped, which is why we cannot leave the tree standing," explains Kleber.
Target budget remains
Traffic will continue to be guided past the construction site with a traffic-dependent traffic light.
Provided there are no further delays, the renovation should be completed and the bridge reopened at the beginning of December.
Despite the longer construction period, the costs should remain within the calculated framework of around 500,000 euros.
The federal government bears these.
