Mimosa Echard has won the Marcel Duchamp 2022 prize which promotes the most representative French artists of their generation with a liquid painting, the Pompidou Center announced on Monday evening.
"Congratulations to Mimosa Echard who is the winner of the Marcel Duchamp 2022 prize"
, writes the Pompidou center on Twitter.
"An Encrypted Image"
"It's a liquid painting, but also an encrypted image, an inaccessible space or a room (...) It's a kind of tear machine, a looping fountain of urine"
, explains the artist in a video which
claims to represent "an infinite circulation of bodily fluids".
The Marcel Duchamp Prize was created in 2000 to highlight the proliferation of the French artistic scene and promote the best internationally.
Also nominated for this edition are Giulia Andreani, whose practice is rooted in the stories of women grappling with great history, Iván Argote, whose filmed performances or sculptural installations challenge the way in which one is traversed by a
"memory of oblivion»
and Philippe Decrauzat whose work questions through optical phenomena both the author and the status of the image.
The works of the four artists will be exhibited at the Center Pompidou until January 2, 2023.
