Former city councilor Max Frey has died at the age of 78.
The bearer of the silver citizen's medal of the city of Bad Tölz was always a vote-catcher for the FWG.
Bad Tölz – When Max Frey received the Silver Citizens’ Medal from the city of Bad Tölz in December 2013, the mayor at the time, Josef Janker, put it in a nutshell: “Max, you weren’t a lobbyist, you were someone who always had his own mind.
You were the opposite of streamlined.” Max Frey died last Tuesday after a long illness at the age of 78.
Max Frey, one who often swam against the tide
One could explain Janker's praise with many examples.
Max Frey swam against the tide when the city council in 1984 – when the trained butcher and vocational school teacher Frey had just taken office – was one of three who recognized the character of the Franzmühle that shaped the cityscape and campaigned massively for the preservation of the tower, which was in need of renovation.
When the Waldherr am Kogel health clinic was to be converted into an addiction clinic in 2004, the city council had enormous reservations.
They feared problems from the clientele.
Only Frey and Karl Drexl were farsighted enough to see the benefits of the facility.
There were never any problems.
Friendly, likes to be mischievous, disputes were sometimes settled with a joke
Frey sat on the city council for 30 years and shaped the work and cooperation.
On the one hand through his experience, on the other hand through his always upright stand for convictions.
Friendly, often mischievous, disputes were sometimes settled with a joke.
And if it had to be, there was a fight.
He was distinguished by his closeness to the people
In addition, there was a close proximity to the people.
Frey was always approachable without trying to please the complainants.
No wonder that he was held in high esteem by the citizens of Tölz and that he was able to re-enter in his last election in 2008 with the fourth-best result of all councillors.
Max Frey was one of the co-founders of the FWG and was always a safe bet as a vote catcher.
He was often seen walking his four-legged friend
You can imagine Frey as a teacher at a vocational school.
At eye level and with a lot of understanding for the adolescent.
The master butcher with his own business was also master of the guild.
The dog lover Frey is also remembered.
He was often seen walking his four-legged friend.

He was a globetrotter exploring the world
The family's obituary mentions the "great adventurer" who has embarked on his final journey.
Yes, that was Max Frey too: a globetrotter who explored the world.
Alone in New Guinea, for example, where, as he said with amusement, he "jumped out of the cannibals' pot".
Or on many trips to South America, where he almost froze to death on Fitz Roy in 2011 and suffered serious damage to his health.
The mountains remained his destiny, even if they got smaller.
Finally, as can be seen from the photo of the obituary, the Zwiesel was a popular destination.
It's a good farewell picture.
The urn burial takes place in silence.
