Within the framework of the work of the Fifth Syrian-Russian Joint Meeting to Follow-up to the International Conference on the Return of Syrian Refugees and Displaced Persons, the Governor of Lattakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, discussed today with the delegation of the Nizhny Novgorod region government in the Russian Federation headed by Deputy Governor Peter Pannikov, possible bilateral areas of cooperation.
The discussions that took place in the Latakia Governorate building included ways to enhance cooperation in areas of common interest, including economic, tourism, cultural, education and health care, establishing joint investment projects and promoting local products, markets and exhibitions, in addition to discussing a twinning agreement between the cities of Lattakia and Dzerzhinsk.
Governor Hilal drew attention to the desire to develop bilateral cooperation relations in various fields, expressing the appreciation and gratitude of the Syrian people for the positions of the Russian Federation, government and people, and its support for it, especially in the field of combating terrorism.
The members of the delegation expressed their desire to develop aspects of cooperation, sign an agreement and a memorandum of cooperation, and take advantage of the ingredients available in both Nizhny Nevgorod and Latakia regions.
In a statement to reporters, Governor Hilal confirmed that the discussions focused on several aspects that support development and investment plans, which are stipulated in the cooperation agreement between the two sides, pointing to the importance of the visit and the accompanying talks to advance bilateral cooperation programs by benefiting from the strong and strategic relations that bring together the two friendly countries.
Governor Hilal confirmed that the delegation will discuss with cadres from the Directorate of Agriculture, businessmen and sorting and packaging centers on areas of cooperation in marketing agricultural products, including citrus and olives, and the possibilities of exporting products surplus to local production.
For his part, Panikov indicated that the talks covered various fields of cooperation, stressing the desire to develop cooperation relations and expand them to include various fields, pointing to the start of a cooperation program in the medical field, especially those related to ophthalmology and lenses, to develop later in the field of exchanging experiences and other medical specialties.
The meeting was attended by the head of the provincial council, the deputy head of the executive office, the governor's general secretary and the directors of the central administration in the province's general secretariat.
