A court in Mexico sentences Ingrid Escamilla's femicide to 70 years in prison

The Attorney General's Office of Mexico City reported this Monday that it obtained a 70-year prison sentence against Erick Francisco "N", after being found guilty of the crime of the femicide of Ingrid Escamilla.

The Mexico City Attorney General's Office reported Monday that it obtained a 70-year prison sentence against Erick Francisco "N", after being found guilty of the crime of the femicide of Ingrid Escamilla, whose case unleashed a wave of protests throughout the country demanding justice and preventive actions to avoid this type of murder.

According to a statement from the Prosecutor's Office, a trial court issued the sentence, which includes "payment for compensation for death and funeral expenses, as well as compensation for non-pecuniary damage."

The Prosecutor's Office added that his political rights were suspended and he was denied benefits and alternatives to the sentence.

Ingrid Escamilla, 25, was found dead on February 9, 2020 in the Gustavo A. Madero mayor's office, in the north of the Mexican capital.

Days later, an arrest was announced around her death.
