Cruise ships such as Aida, Tui or MSC Cruises are again offering many long-distance trips in autumn.

But which Corona rules currently apply?

Escape the dreary autumn and enjoy the sun, sea and white sandy beaches again - for many people that sounds tempting again at the moment.

Holidaymakers can also experience distant countries on a cruise.

But which Corona rules do cruise passengers currently have to observe?

Do travelers need a negative test, full vaccinations and a medical mask?

An overview.

Cruise vacation with Aida: Passengers must observe these corona rules

The cruise giant Aida offers, among other things, trips to South Africa and the Caribbean.

It was only in September that Aida relaxed some of the corona rules.

Since September 17, 2022, proof of vaccination against Covid-19 has no longer been required for most Aida trips.

According to the website, full vaccination protection for people over the age of 18 is only required for trips lasting 16 days or more.

The most important information about the Corona rules on Aida trips:

  • Trips up to and including 15 days:

    certified antigen test for guests aged 3 and over;

Full vaccination protection is not required for guests over the age of 18.

    Note:

Full vaccination protection is required for the Tenerife-Barbados route, even for those who have recovered.

  • Travel longer than 16 days:

    certified antigen test required for guests aged 3 and over;

Full vaccination protection required, even for those who have recovered

  • United Arab Emirates (Orient Travel):

    Antigen test required for guests 3 years and older;

Complete vaccination protection is not required if a certified PCR test or certified proof of recovery can be presented instead

A medical mask should also be worn inside the Aida cruise ship, it is said.

At the earliest six hours before the start date of the cruise, passengers over the age of 18 must also fill out a health questionnaire, which can be downloaded from the Aida website.

When traveling by cruise ship, certain corona rules will also apply in autumn 2022 - but these will vary depending on the ship and destination.

Cruise with Tui Cruises/Mein Schiff: Which corona rules apply?

The rules at Tui are a bit "stricter".

For example, "Tui/Mein Schiff" passengers must have proof of vaccination and have taken two negative antigen tests before embarking on the journey.

It is also necessary to fill out an up-to-date health questionnaire when checking in online.

Even a temperature measurement is carried out before boarding the ship.

The other Corona rules at a glance:

  • Proof of vaccination required

  • Two negative antigen tests must be presented prior to travel.

  • During digital check-in, a daily updated health questionnaire must be filled out.

  • In addition, the temperature is measured before entering the port terminal.

Cruise with MSC Cruises: Vaccination protection, mask, test - holidaymakers must observe these corona rules

Depending on the travel destination, other corona rules often apply.

In some countries, such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar, proof of vaccination is required.

The rules are listed on the MSC Cruises website depending on the travel destination.

An overview of what you have to consider, for example, on a cruise to the Mediterranean, to Dunioa, Abu Dhabi, Qatar or to Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea:

  • Mediterranean cruises:

    Vaccination not mandatory.

However, those who have not been vaccinated must provide evidence of a negative test.

Fully recovered guests must also show a negative PCR or antigen test.

The test must be taken within 48 hours of travel.

  • Cruise to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar:

Passengers 16 years and older must be fully vaccinated against Covid-10.

Those who have been vaccinated and are between 5 and 15 years old must have a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR or antigen test 48 hours before departure.

Guests 6 years and older embarking in Doha (Qatar) must present a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR test taken within 48 hours, regardless of their vaccination status.

Alternatively, an antigen test carried out within 24 hours before the planned flight to Qatar is sufficient.

  • Cruise in Saudi Arabia & Red Sea:

Proof of vaccination is not necessary.

However, all Saudi Arabian passport holders aged 12 and over must be fully vaccinated.

Anyone who is not fully vaccinated needs a negative test.

This also applies to people who have fully recovered.

The test can be a negative Covid-19 PT-PCR or an antigen test.

It must be done 48 hours before embarkation.

  • Note: The tests must have been issued by a laboratory.

An antigen self-test will not be accepted.

Original proof of negative test results and full vaccination must be presented at the terminal (paper or electronic).

The result will only be accepted in the following languages: English, Italian, German, French or Spanish.

So one thing is certain: Depending on the country or cruise ship, the corona rules are different - in many cases vaccination is not absolutely necessary.

A mask requirement on board is usually only recommended.

Depending on the current situation, however, the regulations may change again.
