Over 200 thousand passengers passed through the Begin (Taba) crossing on the Israel-Egypt border, during the Tishrei holidays.

Today (Tuesday) after the end of the holiday period, there were huge traffic jams on Route 90 towards the center due to the many vacationers returning to the center of Eilat and the Sinai Peninsula.

The CEO of the Israel Airports Authority, Hagai Topolansky, ordered a summary of the Tishrei holidays to be held at each of the crossings to Jordan and Egypt in order to prepare for the upcoming holiday and summer seasons and to improve.

According to the summary, over 200,000 people passed through the Begin crossing.

Topolansky added that "the ability and professionalism of all Airport Authority employees to mobilize for the mission during the holidays when the people of Israel are vacationing allowed over 200,000 people to pass through the border crossings and especially at the Begin to Sinai crossing."

Hagai Zamir, Vice President of Mesofim and TFA, said this morning: "I would like to thank the employees who worked night and day to allow Israeli vacationers to go to Sinai by providing excellent service."

On each of the holidays, there was an increase in the number of passengers at the Begin crossing compared to 2019, when the corona restrictions did not yet apply.

At the beginning of 2022, 48,286 passengers passed through compared to 34,662 passengers in 2019. On Yom Kippur this year, 22,524 passengers passed - in 2019, 19,422 passengers passed.

And during Sukkot 2022, 109,435 passengers passed through, an increase of about 13,000 passengers compared to 2019, when 96,258 passengers passed through.

A total of 213,834 passengers passed through the Begin crossing from 9/22/2022 until midnight last night.
