The deployment of the Zagreo operation is part of the investigation of the Azud case, a bribery scheme that affects the PP and the PSOE

Several units of agents of the Central Operational Unit (UCO), supported by a mobile office of Europol, have carried out this Tuesday morning a deployment of records and requirements in the offices of several companies located in the provinces of Alicante, Valencia , Castellón and Madrid.

The firms are, according to sources familiar with the investigation, awarded contracts carried out by the state company Acuamed (Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterraneas) in 2009, under the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

The operation, called Zagreo and ordered by the head of the Court of Instruction 13 of Valencia, has been deployed both in various headquarters of the Acciona company and the Gimeno group,

The operation is part of the investigation of the Azud case, a scheme for the payment of bribes in exchange for millionaire awards in which both PP and PSOE leaders are involved, who are being investigated for the possible commission of crimes of prevarication, bribery and embezzlement.

In May 2021, the investigations led to the arrest of the then sub-delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, the socialist Rafael Rubio, and of the former right-hand man of the mayor of Valencia Rita Barberá and deputy mayor of Valencia, Alfonso Grau.

The main implicated is the businessman Jaime Febrer, a man who showed off knowing how to handle politicians, both from the PP and the PSOE.

During the morning, the agents of the UCO have carried out both searches and requirements and delivery of subpoenas, to go to court both as witnesses and as defendants, to several businessmen, according to the same sources.

One of the information requests, carried out in the company Acciona, derives from the award of a section of the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer in 2006, for which the agents have also gone to the headquarters of another company, Construcciones Luján.

One of the judge's lines of investigation is the link between companies in the alleged corrupt plot led by the builder Jaime María Febrer with payments to advertising firms that carried out electoral acts for the PSPV in the 2007 electoral campaign. In fact, the Former head of finances of the Valencian Socialists, José Cataluña, is one of those involved in the corruption plot for the alleged collection of urban commissions
