In the midst of his military disappointments in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin will find consolation in the European summit convened this Thursday evening in Brussels: the poison he injected into Europeans while playing with the gas tap is producing its effects.
Worried and feverish, the Twenty-Seven are divided on the collective response to be provided by next spring, when it will be necessary to fill the reserves in anticipation of the winter of 2024. France and fifteen Member States want to draw inspiration from the Iberian Peninsula to cap gas prices and, by mechanical effect, electricity;
Germany and some of the richest are reluctant to do so, fearing that an artificial limitation of prices will increase demand and threaten the security of supplies.

This political divergence will perhaps end up being overcome, after months of picrocholine negotiations in Brussels leading to arrangements of indecipherable complexity.
