A 17-year-old boy died unexpectedly Friday when he collapsed while singing a solo during a choir recital in Naperville, Illinois, his family and authorities said.
Daniel Moshi, a senior at Leyden High School, was performing in the Illinois American Choral Directors Association's All State Honors Show Choir at Naperville North High School when he collapsed, the local NBC station in Chicago reported.

"They told us that while he was doing his solo, he passed out," explained his mother, Karolin Moshi, to the local media.
"She collapsed and we don't know anything else," she added.
The teen's mother said he seemed fine when she dropped him off at school earlier that day and that he contacted her when he arrived at the music event, she told NBC Chicago.
“He texted me [saying] 'Mom, I'm here,' around 5:00 p.m. or so.
She told me: 'Yes, everything is fine mom,'” she assured.

Less than two hours later, his family was informed of what had happened to him.
“I got the call from his music teacher.
And he told me there had been an incident,” her father, Loden Moshi, told NBC Chicago.
Naperville firefighters were dispatched around 6:18 p.m. on reports of a 17-year-old man being "unconscious," firefighters told NBC Chicago.
The teen was taken to Edwards Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death was not disclosed.
The DuPage County Medical Examiner's Office told NBC News on Wednesday that it had no update on the investigation into the cause of death.
A Leyden High School spokesperson said the school is mourning Moshi's outcome.
"This loss impacts our entire Leyden community," he said in a statement sent to NBC Chicago.
“Our students and staff are grieving and our focus is on their well-being.
We encourage anyone experiencing a difficult time to contact a trusted adult and our Student Services department is available to provide support.
We also ask everyone to take care of one another during this difficult time,” she added.

Moshi's family said the young man planned to attend college next year and had dreams of acting on Broadway.
"I don't know how to explain it," said his mother, who described her son as an "honest, so pure" and "lovable" teenager.
"It's not easy," she added, "it's not easy for any parent to go through this because we don't have answers yet."
