Al-Hasakah-SANA
The farmers of Al-Hasakah Governorate began harvesting the areas planted with the sesame crop, concentrated in the first agricultural settlement area, especially the countryside of the city of Al-Malikiyah.
The head of the Plant Production Department in the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Jalal Bilal, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the area planted with the sesame crop for the current season amounted to 40 hectares, where the majority of farmers harvest it manually because it is agricultural areas that are few and far between, and then they are dried, sifted and sold.
Bilal pointed out that the production of the sesame crop is witnessing a great demand and competition for its purchase by traders and within the local markets, as it is a main material used in the manufacture of many other foodstuffs, especially tahini, halawa, thyme and other materials.
According to the estimates of the Directorate of Agriculture, the production of the sesame crop for the current season in the governorate is 75 tons.
