The city of Weilheim pushed ahead, now the district is following suit: From now on, only cold water comes out of the showers in the gyms.

District – The athletes have to be brave: From now on, the warm water is not only turned off in the gyms, for which the city of Weilheim is responsible, but also in those of the district.

This affects, among other things, the vocational school gyms in Weilheim and Schongau, the gymnasium of the high school in Schongau and the triple hall in Penzberg.

If you want to shower there after exercise, you should either have no problem with cold water or shower at home.

In principle, this is nothing new for the sports clubs – even during the corona pandemic, showers were not allowed to be taken from time to time.

However, it is not necessarily conducive to a good mood.

TSV Weilheim discussed energy saving measures imposed

These days, the energy saving measures imposed by the city and district have already been discussed at the club meeting of TSV Weilheim.

The city of Weilheim decided that in the future only cold showers will be allowed in the sports halls owned by them.

In addition, the room temperature should be reduced to 15 degrees.

The district will do the same in its sports halls.

In order to show solidarity, the TSV has now also decided to follow the regulations in relation to the club home.

"Of course, the athletes are not happy about it, but they show understanding for it," reports TSV board member Dieter Pausch.

Furthermore, the TSV has decided to close the very energy-intensive sauna and two changing rooms.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter. And here is the Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.)

Only the room temperature is different in the clubhouse.

That is only lowered to 18 instead of 15 degrees because, according to Pausch, many children would also play sports in the clubhouse.

“These are all short-term measures.

In the long term, we are planning to develop a well thought-out energy concept for our sports center on Pollinger Strasse," says Pausch.

The temperature in Peißenberg's sports halls is lowered - but athletes are allowed to take warm showers

TSV Peißenberg has also taken energy-saving measures.

For example, the lighting in the sports hall was reduced to 66 percent during competitions, and people have been training like this for a long time.

In addition, it will be a little cooler in Peißenberg's sports halls, the room temperature has been lowered from 22 to 19 degrees.

The sports hall operator, the market town of Peißenberg, has not yet issued any further regulations on energy saving.

Unlike in Weilheim, athletes in Peißenberg are still allowed to take warm showers.

However, with signs such as "Take a quick shower!" or "The last one turns off the light!" athletes should be made aware of energy-saving behavior.

This applies in Penzberg and Peiting

TSV Penzberg does not operate its own sports halls and can therefore not decide on energy-saving measures there itself.

All halls used by TSV are municipal.

The Penzberg athletes have not yet received any information from the city administration as to whether and which measures are planned.

Especially with regard to the currently much-discussed turning off the hot water in showers, TSV Penzberg hopes that the city will not take this step.

In the offices of the branch office, attempts are currently being made to only use as much energy as is necessary.

The temperature there was therefore moderately lowered and it is only heated when people are actually in the premises.

In Peiting, the TSV athletes can continue to be “wimps”.

Showers are taken there as before, and the heating can also run in the corresponding rooms.

You still want to save energy, but without being forced to do so.

The athletes are only encouraged to shower a little shorter than usual in the coming months if possible.

According to the TSV, they rely on the personal responsibility of the athletes: There should definitely not be a "shower police" standing by and checking the time in Peiting.

What about the other towns in the district?

The

city of Penzberg

had already switched off the warm water in its gyms during the past summer holidays.

This was part of an initial package of energy-saving measures decided in July.

Since the end of the holidays, however, it has been possible to take a hot shower again.

It is possible that the warm water in the gyms will be switched off again, following the example of the district.

On request, the town hall said that this would be discussed.

The environmental department is preparing further measures for the next city council meeting.

Other measures from the first energy-saving package are still running.

At that time, air conditioning, heating and light sensors were reset in public buildings in the city of Penzberg, electric flow heaters in individual washbasins were switched off, the running time of the city fountain was limited and the facade radiators were switched off.

The athletes who use the

Lechsporthalle in Schongau

will probably not have to take cold showers any time soon.

When asked, city master builder Sebastian Dietrich leaves no doubt that the city will implement the required energy-saving measures to secure the energy supply, but initially only the instantaneous water heaters will be taken out of service.

In the Schongau sports hall, on the other hand, the hot water is heated via a large system.

"Here we will definitely look at the control technology," announced Dietrich.

Experts from the Allgäu Energy & Environment Center, “Eza” for short, will soon be able to see if and what can be optimized at the Lech sports hall.

"But there has not yet been a decision that everyone should take a cold shower there, as is now the case in other cities." Also, the city would not take such measures alone, but would certainly discuss them with TSV Schongau in advance, said Dietrich.
