Attacking the soldiers: The Land of Israel was bought with suffering, not with violence Israel today

Stretching borders for idealistic reasons cannot and must not be a license to unleash oppression and violence • Unfortunately, there have been for many years in the Samaria region small groups of Jews who allow themselves to behave like this

The settlement movement in Judea and Samaria has been based on somewhat revolutionary elements since its inception, and it's a good thing.

If Hanan Porat, Rabbi Levinger and Daniela Weiss had not insisted on forcing the establishment's grip on the heart of the country, we would have lost it. It is no less serious - Hamastan, spread out from Nablus to Ramallah, would be visible to us from the Azrieli Towers. So the nation owes a lot to them and all their partners.

But stretching boundaries for idealistic reasons cannot and must not be a license to unleash oppression and violence.

Not towards Arabs who have not committed a crime, and certainly not towards IDF soldiers, policemen, MGB or any other sovereign entity.

This principle is so self-evident, that it is not surprising that all the leaders of the right repeated it yesterday without any reservation.

Despite this, unfortunately, there have been for many years in the Samaria region small groups of Jews who allow themselves to resort to violence.

Law enforcement agencies sometimes harass Israeli residents in the Nablus area.

The IDF, in the opinion of many settlers, does not take strong enough steps to curb terrorism, and these policies cause outbreaks of violence against representatives of the Israeli government.

The permission that people gave themselves many years ago to harm innocent Arabs, as part of a "price tag", has turned into a freeing of the reins of individuals even towards the uniform wearers.

The settlement leaders in the area, including the rabbis, are unable to control the phenomenon.

Avery Ran, a resident of Samaria, recently compared his willingness to break the law in order to settle the country, and white Americans in the USA who, during slavery there, broke the law, and did not return black slaves who fled for their lives to their owners (so he said in a rare interview with creator Ezri Tobi). The comparison is spot on. And yet, the Land of Israel was bought with suffering - not with violence.
