The French aluminum company Alteo and the South Korean manufacturer Wscope will build the largest electric separator plant in France. Start of production planned for 2026.

Good news in terms of reindustrialization.

As refinery blockages have caused petrol shortages in recent weeks across France, a new government strategy seems to be taking shape to reduce its dependence on fuels.

According to information from

Les Echos

,

confirmed to

Le Figaro,

France will have the largest factory of battery separators for electric vehicles.

"Wscope, one of the world leaders in the field of electric vehicle battery separators, and Alteo, the world leader in specialty aluminas, have signed an agreement in the presence of Minister Roland Lescure",

specifies the ministry in charge of Industry in a press release Thursday evening.

This investment of 600 million euros is therefore part of a broader perspective for the executive: “

Create a complete ecosystem for the production of batteries, basic materials for gigafactories.

If the place of this gigantic factory is not yet known, the separators produced, an essential component of the batteries, must supply the future sites which produce them.

Which are located in the north of France.

Two objectives emerge from this agreement: a production launch set for 2026 and the creation of more than 1,000 direct jobs.

The government, which has long wanted to initiate a policy of reindustrialization on its soil, also boasts of a “

100% electric production site in Europe

(which)

will benefit from the French electricity mix to ensure the lowest possible carbon content.

This alliance with Wscope will, among other things, allow Alteo to partner with one of Samsung's main suppliers.

And to supply all the French giga-factories with components.

This announcement comes a few days after that of Emmanuel Macron in

Les Échos

which set a course: to produce 2 million electric cars per year in France by the end of the decade.

To do this, the State will mobilize 5 billion euros in public support as part of the France 2030 plan

. “The transition is therefore not the cause of the current difficulties.

On the contrary, it is an opportunity to relaunch a sector with new objectives

”, indicated the President of the Republic.

Who added:

“The transition creates value and jobs in France.

For this, we have massively helped the automotive industry over the past five years, both on the supply side and on the demand side.”
