In Germany, people groan because of the inflation.

But things don't necessarily look better elsewhere - holiday countries are also affected.

The summer time is over - but for many Germans vacation is far from over.

Many also want to travel in autumn and winter of this year.

However, citizens cannot flee rising inflation because other countries in the euro area are also struggling with higher living costs.

Inflation abroad: how much more expensive is a holiday in Europe?

In Germany, the inflation rate in September 2022 was 10.9 percent (HICP) compared to the same month last year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office.

“The main reasons for the high inflation are still enormous price increases for energy products.

But we are also increasingly observing price increases for many other goods, especially food," says Dr.

Georg Thiel, President of the Federal Statistical Office.

The first hotels in Germany are even adding an energy flat rate due to the rise in energy prices.

However, "flight" abroad does not necessarily bring improvement: Anyone planning a holiday in the EU must also expect increased costs in most countries - a trend that has been going on for months.

Germany is currently right in the EU average – the inflation rate here is also 10.9 percent.

The lowest rates are in France (6.2 percent), Malta (7.4 percent) and Finland (8.4 percent).

The highest in the euro area are in Estonia (24.1 percent), Lithuania (22.5 percent) and Latvia (22.0 percent).

A holiday in these countries is currently a lot more expensive than in previous years.

Nevertheless, the real costs in comparison do not necessarily have to be higher than in Germany: "The countries in Europe with higher inflation are usually those whose price level is basically below ours," says a spokesman for the company A3M Global Monitoring the

editorial network Germany (RND)

Higher than it has been for 24 years: inflation in Turkey

However, inflation is hitting Turkey particularly hard.

The inflation rate was 83.45 percent in September, as reported by the national statistics office in Ankara, according to

Tagesschau

.

That's another increase from August, when consumer prices were up 80.21 percent year-on-year.

Food prices alone are said to have increased by a good 93 percent in the past month.

The independent Inflation Research Group even estimates that the real inflation rate is 186.27 percent, according to the report.

Nevertheless, Turkey is one of the most popular travel destinations this winter, according to data from tour operator Tui.

In general, the Germans have a desire to travel, as Norbert Fiebig, President of the German Travel Association (DRV) says in a press release.

The market research institute GfK even reported in the summer that, despite rising prices, Germans would rather go without tasty food than travel.
