India's competition authority has fined Google $162 million for abusing its dominant position in the domestic smartphone market.
"Google has created its platform in such a way that it can illegally displace competitors to its applications, YouTube and Chrome," the agency that monitors monopoly said in a statement to AFP.
The authority added: "The Android operating system designed by Google is equipped with a series of applications of the same company pre-installed on mobile phones, including its search engine, which provided a greater competitive advantage for Google's search services compared to its competitors."
The Indian authority stressed that markets should compete based on their efficiency and that Google should ensure that its practices do not affect this competition, and also asked the American company not to conclude deals with smartphone manufacturers that would encourage these parties to sell Android devices only or You use the company's software exclusively.
