The Syrian and Indonesian sides agreed, during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jakarta, to activate the memorandum of cooperation signed between the Syrian Chamber of Commerce and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in 2018, and to discuss the formation of a joint businessmen council in the two countries and to study ways and means of putting the outcomes of this meeting into practice.

From the Syrian side, the Chargé d'Affairs on behalf of Jakarta, Plenipotentiary Minister Abdel Moneim Annan, and the Economic Attaché at the embassy, ​​Muhammad Nahed Muhairi, and a number of Syrian businessmen registered with the Syrian Chambers of Commerce, and a number of other Syrian businessmen participated via video link from Damascus. The Indonesian side, senior staff of the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, a number of Indonesian businessmen, the Indonesian ambassador in Damascus, Wajid Fawzi, and other officials.

During the meeting, they discussed the relationship between Syria and Indonesia in the commercial and economic fields, and ways to increase trade exchanges between the two countries, in particular palm oil, olive oil, wood processing, electricity, electrical machinery, equipment, engines, food, medical and paper products.

The Syrian Chargé d'Affairs affirmed that Syria is recovering today after defeating terrorism, and is working to restore production, revive the economy and rebuild, indicating that this provides wide opportunities for the productive and business sectors in Indonesia to enter the Syrian market and invest in it, in addition to investing in the tourism and energy sectors.

In turn, the Indonesian side expressed its satisfaction and appreciation for this highest meeting between the two sides over the past years, expressing readiness to discuss in more detail with the Syrian government side and Syrian businessmen counterparts in the export and import of products and commodities that are available to a wide segment of consumers in the two countries.
