Autumn in Bavaria stays warm like late summer - but people also have to be prepared for local thunderstorms with heavy rain, lightning and thunder.
Munich – At the end of September it was still missing in Bavaria and especially at the Oktoberfest, but it is now dominating the Free State all the more surprisingly and intensively: late summer.
Unusually high temperatures for the time of year, mild breeze, little rain.
This is the balance sheet for October so far.
At least one thing should change in the night from Sunday to Monday, October 24th: local thunderstorms are imminent.
Weather in Bavaria: Local thunderstorms and heavy rain threaten
The meteorologists agree on this forecast: In the Alps and in the area of the foothills of the Alps, sometimes also a little further into the lowlands, there will be thunderstorms early Monday.
The German Weather Service (DWD) writes of individual "thunderstorms with heavy rain" and "stormy gusts".
Meteorologist Dominik Jung from
wetter.net
speaks on YouTube of "individual thunderstorms and rain showers".
At
wetter.com
it is said that a "cold front" with rain will come on Monday.
It cannot therefore be ruled out that there will also be rainy and stormy weather tendencies in the rest of Bavaria, for example in Munich or Nuremberg.
But it won't be particularly noticeable.
On the contrary: The only thing that is striking is the warm weather, which will continue in the next few days.

Late summer in autumn: "Golden October weather" in Bavaria
Looking at the weekly forecast, Jung from
wetter.net
is astonished.
"Obviously October is pale and wet, we have golden October weather," reports the expert.
And the temperature forecasts prove him right: from Tuesday it will be at least 20 degrees throughout Bavaria, on Friday the temperatures in the state capital will even climb to 24 degrees, according to the forecast.
According to the forecasts, the warm weather should last until the end of October, with at least 15 degrees remaining.
That would make October 2022 history, explains Jung – it would be the warmest October since weather records began in 1881, even though the weather at the beginning of the month was not relatively subdued.
