An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale hit the coastal city of Rabaul in Papua New Guinea today.
The US Geological Survey said that the tremor occurred 45 kilometers west of the city of Rabaul, at a depth of 226.8 kilometers below sea level, without reports of casualties or material damage.
Papua New Guinea is located on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, which experiences intense seismic activity, due to the friction between tectonic layers.
