Jazz lovers enjoyed a musical evening performed by the Russian jazz band “Masala Quartet” on the stage of Dar Al-Assad for Culture in Lattakia. It was distinguished by its modern musical style with special touches that mix Eastern and Western music.
The evening, which comes within the framework of the Syrian-Russian cultural exchange and in cooperation between the Syrian and Russian Ministries of Culture and the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus, during which the band, which includes four players on saxophone, piano, double bass and drums, presented modern jazz music, in a modern and creative style, by mixing jazz, funk, fusion and hip-hop with International music and presenting it with its own style and imprint.
Nikolai Sokhov, director of the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that this is the band’s second visit to Syria after the first visit in March of last year, but due to the measures of the Corona virus, the band presented two concerts in Damascus only, so this year the insistence was on presenting this Russian art Contemporary and modern in more than one place, especially for the public in the city of Latakia.
Sokhov talked about the music presented by the band, which is one of the most important modern jazz bands on the Russian stage, noting that most of what it presented was composed by it, and it blends Western musical styles in perfect harmony with Eastern music, which expresses the truth of the band's name derived from the Indian heritage "Masala". “Any spice with a Russian flavour.
Alexei Sukhov, the saxophone player and one of the founders of the band spoke about the wide attendance of the band's concerts and the enjoyment and love for this type of music among the Syrian audience, especially as it is unconventional music with harmony between eastern and western music and providing a new experience.
In turn, Anna Permi, a pianist, indicated that the band presents international musical pieces, in addition to its own pieces that express their ideas, vision and impression of the world.
Majd Sarem, Director of Culture in Lattakia, said that the evening falls within the framework of hosting cultural events on an ongoing basis. Last week, Dar Al-Assad in Latakia hosted the Nizhny Novgorod Russian Orchestra. On this evening, one of the most important Russian bands performed jazz, which enhances the important cultural exchange, especially that Music is the language of the world.
