Roland Schwankhart, former head of the vaccination center, will be coming to civil protection from January.

He is an important man in a difficult winter.

County

- No one can predict right now how unpleasant the winter will be.

In the worst case, there is a risk of a blackout lasting several weeks.

In this respect, it was important news that District Administrator Stefan Frey made public at the end of the district committee meeting a few days ago.

Disaster control is being increased in terms of staff, with Roland Schwankhart (47) taking on the advertised staff position.

District Administrator Frey not only named bottlenecks in the energy supply as a possible cause of a blackout.

"The risk of hacker attacks has also increased," he said.

It is now a matter of getting fuel, securing the critical infrastructure and drawing up an action plan.

Blackout in Munich: civil protection prepared

Schwankhart, currently head of the nursing department at the Klinikum Rechts der Isar in Munich, is no stranger to the district.

As long as there was a disaster in Bavaria due to Corona, he was a member of the crisis team in the district office.

He was also head of the vaccination center and managed the organizational feat of vaccinating 2,000 citizens in a single day.

His new job, starting early next year, will focus on what to do in the event of a widespread, prolonged power outage.

"We will have little control over whether it happens," he says.

"But we have to make plans for how to proceed, from communication with the population to the water supply." He doesn't think the worst-case scenario is very likely.

"But nobody wants to be accused afterwards of not having done everything."

Concerns about power failures: Disaster control is already busy

The Starnberger is ideally suited for the job, both theoretically and practically.

He studied crisis and disaster management in Hall in Tirol.

In addition, the trained nanny has set up emergency rooms in the Großhadern Clinic and in the Hauner Children's Clinic during his professional life.

In the latter, he introduced "triage," a priority list of who needs care first because their life is in danger and who can wait a few more minutes.

His job in the district office, for which he resigned on the right side of the Isar, is limited to two years.

One thing is important to him: "It's not like anyone is waiting for me.

In the office, civil protection is already working at full throttle.”

“A Reason to Stay”

This is confirmed by the spokesman for the district office, Stefan Diebl.

"There's a lot going on in the background," he says.

For example, a one-off amount of 1.3 million euros was set aside for the purchase of fuel in order to be able to operate aggregates.

Several thousand liters of diesel are needed every day.

"We have already made contact with the tank farm in Germering." The city of Starnberg and the municipalities are currently in the process of setting up central contact points for citizens and, if necessary, emergency accommodation.

Roland Schwankhart was already present at the mayoral service meeting.

He could become an important man in a difficult winter.
