Under the spotlight of the media and politicians for several weeks, in the spring of 2021, the great Eyyûb Sultan mosque, under construction in Strasbourg, benefited from significant publicity.
Already little focused on communication before this affair, its promoters have since become even more discreet.
However, the debate had less targeted the architectural project, intended to attract Turkish-speaking Muslim faithful beyond the Millî Görüs Islamic Confederation, than the subsidy of 2,563,000 euros - or 10% of the cost of the building - that the municipality environmentalist was preparing to grant the project, despite multiple oppositions.
Contested by the prefect of Bas-Rhin and by the municipal group Les Républicains, the deliberation of March 22, 2021 was examined last Thursday by the administrative court.
