Hong Kong is extremely hot in summer, and this July became the hottest July on record in Hong Kong.

CLP Power (CLP) held two "Electricity Saving Missions" in July to encourage residential customers who have installed smart meters to reduce electricity consumption during peak electricity consumption periods, and introduced artificial intelligence for air-conditioning remote control for the first time.

As a result, about 300,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity were saved and 110 tons of carbon emissions were reduced within the 4-hour event.

Some users even said that they successfully saved 6 kWh of electricity within 4 hours, saving hundreds of yuan in electricity bills compared to the same quarter last year.

According to CLP, the results this time are very good, and the conference will expand the plan, hoping to invite more customers who have installed smart meters to participate in the "energy saving task", "July and September are the hottest months in history, so it can be done in a short period of time. To achieve such a result, I think it is very ideal.”

This summer, CLP held the "Electricity Saving Mission" reward program in multiple districts, including Lantau Island, Tuen Mun, Tseung Kwan O, Sheung Shui, etc., inviting residential customers who installed and connected smart meters to participate.

Customers can earn 200 points for every kilowatt-hour of electricity they save at a designated time, which can be exchanged for supermarket gift vouchers, smart home appliances and other rewards.

Implemented twice this year to reduce carbon emissions by a total of 110 tons

Lu Zhihua, Director of Customer Success and Sales at CLP Power, said that on July 12 and July 25 this year, CLP carried out two “power saving tasks” during the peak electricity consumption period, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. , the total task time is four hours.

A total of 600,000 residential customers were invited to participate in the plan, of which 7 adults successfully saved electricity, saving about 300,000 kWh of electricity and 110 tons of carbon emissions within 4 hours. A big step."

Lu Zhihua said that after the average person turns on the air conditioner, they seldom adjust the temperature of the air conditioner.

For the first time, CLP has introduced artificial intelligence air-conditioning remote control technology, which can automatically adjust the air-conditioning as the environment changes.

The introduction of intelligent air-conditioning technology for the first time saves about 30% of electricity consumption

At the same time, CLP has also introduced artificial intelligence air-conditioning remote control for the first time, which is equipped with sensors, which can monitor the temperature and humidity of the home 24 hours a day, and will regularly understand the user's requirements for temperature comfort.

Through continuous data collection, artificial intelligence can perform analysis and calculations to calculate the temperature required by the user, and then adjust the air-conditioning according to environmental changes.

Lu Zhihua said that during the "Electricity Saving Mission", customers who used artificial intelligence for air-conditioning remote control saved about 30% of their electricity consumption compared to other customers.

He pointed out that this time is an experimental nature, and about 500 people have used it so far.

CLP has sent a letter to invite some users who have installed smart meters. If the users are interested and meet the conditions, they will receive a free artificial intelligence air-conditioning remote control.

Some users save 6 kWh of electricity in 4 hours

Mr. Yip is one of the participants of the project and currently lives in a flat of about 400 square feet in Tuen Mun District.

He said that in the past, the air conditioner was often "on day and night", and the home has an open kitchen. Every time the rice is cooked, the unit temperature will rise. As a result, the temperature of the air conditioner needs to be lowered, which increases the electricity consumption.

Mr. Ye said that in order to save electricity, he uses both air-conditioning and convection fans. When the air-conditioning is turned on in the hall, the fan is also turned on in the corridor to blow some of the air-conditioning to the bedroom, study, etc. The windows... can be turned on without the air-conditioning.” When working from home (WFH) earlier, he mainly worked in the bedroom, and he would first close the curtains before turning on the air-conditioning. With the use of artificial intelligence air-conditioning remote control, there is no need to turn on the air-conditioning too much in disguise.

During this year's "Electricity Saving Mission", namely, 6:30pm to 8:30pm on July 12 and July 25th, for a total of four hours of mission time, Mr. Ye successfully saved 6 kWh of electricity, compared to the same quarter last year. Hundreds of dollars in electricity bills.

Lu Zhihua emphasized that it is not easy to save one kilowatt-hour of electricity, and July this year was the hottest in Hong Kong on record, so it is very difficult to save electricity in a short period of time. You can save electricity.”

Lu Zhihua continued, as of the end of September 2022, CLP has installed and connected more than 1.63 million smart meters for more than half of its customers. All installation work will be completed in 2025, and CLP will invite more customers who have installed smart meters. Participate in the "Electricity Saving Mission".

CLP extends the free charging service for electric vehicles until the end of 2023. The Shenzhen section of the backup cable was dug up in August last year. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Administration urged the researcher to move back to the territory due to the Russian-Ukrainian war. The environment bureau warned that the increase in electricity tariffs next year will inevitably lead to a major power outage. |Small fire turns into a bridge fire expert: a light tube with a difference of tens of centimeters may not necessarily cause a blackout in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long |
