CLP Power (CLP) held two "Electricity Saving Missions" in July to encourage residential customers who have installed smart meters to reduce electricity consumption during peak electricity consumption periods, and introduced artificial intelligence for air-conditioning remote control for the first time.
As a result, about 300,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity were saved and 110 tons of carbon emissions were reduced within the 4-hour event.
Some users even said that they successfully saved 6 kWh of electricity within 4 hours, saving hundreds of yuan in electricity bills compared to the same quarter last year.
According to CLP, the results this time are very good, and the conference will expand the plan, hoping to invite more customers who have installed smart meters to participate in the "energy saving task", "July and September are the hottest months in history, so it can be done in a short period of time. This summer, CLP held the "Electricity Saving Mission" reward program in multiple districts, including Lantau Island, Tuen Mun, Tseung Kwan O, Sheung Shui, etc., inviting residential customers who installed and connected smart meters to participate.
Customers can earn 200 points for every kilowatt-hour of electricity they save at a designated time, which can be exchanged for supermarket gift vouchers, smart home appliances and other rewards.
Implemented twice this year to reduce carbon emissions by a total of 110 tons
Lu Zhihua, Director of Customer Success and Sales at CLP Power, said that on July 12 and July 25 this year, CLP carried out two “power saving tasks” during the peak electricity consumption period, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. , the total task time is four hours.
A total of 600,000 residential customers were invited to participate in the plan, of which 7 adults successfully saved electricity, saving about 300,000 kWh of electricity and 110 tons of carbon emissions within 4 hours. A big step."

Through continuous data collection, artificial intelligence can perform analysis and calculations to calculate the temperature required by the user, and then adjust the air-conditioning according to environmental changes.
Lu Zhihua said that during the "Electricity Saving Mission", customers who used artificial intelligence for air-conditioning remote control saved about 30% of their electricity consumption compared to other customers.
He pointed out that this time is an experimental nature, and about 500 people have used it so far.
CLP has sent a letter to invite some users who have installed smart meters. If the users are interested and meet the conditions, they will receive a free artificial intelligence air-conditioning remote control.
Some users save 6 kWh of electricity in 4 hours
Mr. Yip is one of the participants of the project and currently lives in a flat of about 400 square feet in Tuen Mun District.
He said that in the past, the air conditioner was often "on day and night", and the home has an open kitchen. Every time the rice is cooked, the unit temperature will rise. As a result, the temperature of the air conditioner needs to be lowered, which increases the electricity consumption.
