The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) has confirmed media reports of a hacking attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Accordingly, the hackers succeeded in gaining free access to the e-mail traffic.

According to the Isna news agency, the nuclear authority stated that the hackers should not have captured any secret documents.

The agency blamed a "specific country" for the attack, without giving further details.

Iran blamed its arch-enemies Israel and the United States for earlier hacking attacks on facilities in the country.

According to media reports, the Iranian group Black Reward is behind the hacker attack.

This calls for the release of people who have been imprisoned in the system-critical protests in recent weeks.

The Bushehr nuclear power plant in the port city of the same name on the Persian Gulf is a joint project of Iran and Russia.

It is intended for civilian purposes and, according to official information, is mainly intended for generating and supplying energy to the two southern provinces of Bushehr and Fars.
