Opinion Who stole my sentiment? | Israel today

2022-10-23T20:20:18.479Z

The various parties are trying to tap into the emotional veins of the voters in the current elections • Is this being done successfully? It is already open to interpretation

At the end of the week, an outdoor and bus campaign was launched: "This time we will win, friend".

In conclusion, Benny Gantz spoke about the support given by Ben Gvir and Smotrich to the Jewish violence in the Territories against soldiers and said: "We saw how people spoke and how it ended in November 1995."

If we also consider Gantz's visual campaign, and the fact that his list is full of "military" and "state" brands, we cannot ignore the fact that this is a conscious appeal to a very specific voter sentiment: that of Yitzhak Rabin.

Was this done successfully?

is very.

Is it smart?

This is already for the "campaign people".

The Labor Party, by the way, does not even try to correspond with Rabin.

Either Rabin stopped being interested in the leadership there, or Michaeli's team learned something in the in-depth polls that Gantz was not exposed to: Rabin is not recognized, and that a different agenda is needed.

Next: When Gideon Sa'ar launched "Tikva Hadada" he identified it with a clear sentiment: "the Likud movement of old", for those who miss Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir.

They could find Begin's son and Shamir's granddaughter on his list, and never stop hearing statements from him ("We will not become Sicily") that made it clear that "Begin's school is here."

In this case too - there is and will be no point in trying to find nostalgia for the mythical Likud leaders in their movement today.

The dissonance will cry out to the heavens.

Even the name "National Camp" was changed there for a certain period to "Traditional Camp".

And so it happened that a new party, the "state camp", wins the sentiment that was previously the property of two competing parties - those who miss Begin and Shamir, the people of Eretz Shelmo Israel;

And those who miss Rabin - the man of Oslo and the division of the country.

Both communities may find themselves putting the same note in the envelope.

What is left for the mother parties?

Has labor found itself a new agenda?

Yes.

She found what is called (and Avshalom Kor will forgive me) a "positive agenda": Labor is positioned as a new European left that promotes civil rights, women, the environment and immigrants.

Not something that creates a ruling party.

And the Likud found a "negative agenda": victimhood.

This is successful in the Netanyahu era and depends on continuing to deal with the Netanyahu files, which reinforce the strengthening of the Likud that lives around this sentiment.

They justify Likud being "the party of Israeli victims".

This is the central sentiment that connects voters, who will doubtless be left there the day after the legal engagement.

So maybe there will be someone who wants to bring home the party positioning of the "Begin and Shamir list".

Just as one day - perhaps the day Boji Herzog decides to return to the political arena - there will be those who will wish to restore the Labor Party's branding of the "Rabin Party".

But then these and those may discover that it is too late, and that what was done cannot be returned, because someone has already stolen their sentiment.
