Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and Deputy Mayor Aryeh King of Jerusalem were attacked this evening (Sunday) by supporters of convicted sex offender Eliezer Berland, during the Shimon HaTzadik revelry that is taking place in the last day in Jerusalem.
This, while the attackers call out to Eliyahu: "He put the rabbi in jail."
In the attack, the deputy mayor was slightly wounded in the head.
In view of the location of the revelry, which takes place in a tomb in the neighborhood of Shimon HaTzadik-Sheikh Jarach, large forces of police secured the event, and after the riot broke out they dispersed the rioters.
Eliyahu is one of Berland's fiercest critics, who is known, among other things, for presiding over a rabbinic court to investigate the Haim Walder affair and standing by the victims.
