Head of a Ukrainian armaments factory arrested on charges of high treason

09:33:

According to several Ukrainian media, the head of the Ukrainian armaments factory Motor Sich has been arrested in Zaporizhia.

Vyacheslav Bogulayev is accused of high treason because he is said to have cooperated with the Russian military, reports the Ukrainian news channel 24 Kanal, among others.

As the media from security circles claim to have learned, investigators broke down Bogulayev's front door and searched his property.

He himself will now be brought to Kyiv.

Ukrainian journalist Iryna Romaliyska writes on Facebook that Bogulayev is known for his pro-Russian views and is suspected of having supplied Russia with parts for helicopters and airplanes.

Motor Sich is one of the most important defense and industrial companies in Ukraine.

The company, based in the eastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, primarily produces aircraft turbines and engines.

By 2014, much of the production went to Russia.

Russia and Belarus further banned from skiing competitions

Athletes from Russia and Belarus are still not allowed to take part in competitions of the International Ski Federation Fis.

That was decided by the Fis Council during a meeting on Saturday in Sölden.

Fis is responsible for Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, freestyle and snowboarding competitions.

The association had excluded Russia and Belarus from the World Cup season on March 1 because of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

The sanction was extended “taking into account the integrity of the Fis competitions and the safety of all participants”, as the Fis reports.

Schulze called for rapid reconstruction.

Ukraine cannot wait until the war is over to repair bridges or power grids, the minister said.

»The basic supply must continue to function, because that is the basis for the resilience and cohesion of this society.«

Giffey: Capacities for taking in refugees are almost exhausted

Berlin’s governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) sees the capital on the edge of its possibilities when it comes to taking in refugees.

The city states in particular, and Berlin in particular as the main attraction, have “almost exhausted their capacities by now,” she told the “Bild am Sonntag”.

340,000 Ukrainians received first aid in Berlin, and 100,000 are now resident in the capital.

Giffey demanded: "We urgently need more federal real estate to accommodate people well, financial support for the immense costs and fair distribution throughout Germany."
