The electricity consumption in the winter increases significantly - and with it the price paid in the account • We found out what are the tips that will help us to heat in the most economical way, and what new devices the market offers

Price increases accompany consumers in almost all areas: food, recreation and current expenses, and one of the biggest expenses is for electricity consumption at home.

Now, when the winter season is approaching, there is a huge significance to intelligent electricity consumption, since any change in consumption can be translated into significant savings.

"The highest consumption amounts of electricity are in the winter, and during this period we are talking about year-round highs," says Oren Hellman, VP of Service at the Electric Company. In the home consumption with higher amounts of electricity use - both in the consumption of the whole economy and in the home consumption.

There are those who operate several heating means at the same time with a lack of consumer logic, and all these things are added to the electricity bill."

matching expectations

If you also see an increase in the electricity bill in the winter months, it is probably not a mistake in the meter, as many think.

"During the winter period, there is sometimes an increase in the amount to be paid on the electricity bill compared to the summer months, especially in December, January and February - which can double the billing requirement. This makes people think that there is a problem with the meter, but this is not true, there is abnormal consumption and therefore expectations need to be coordinated. The bill is complex "From the electricity tariff, which is fixed - 50 cents per kilowatt per hour, multiplied by the amount of consumption. Before the price increase of the electricity tariff, the amount was about 45 cents per hour."

How significant is the financial difference when it comes to different devices?

"Operation of a small 750 watt room air conditioner costs about 0.4 NIS per hour, operation of a large 1,500 watt living room air conditioner costs about 0.8 NIS per hour, a 3,000 watt mini central air conditioner costs about 1.7 NIS per hour, a 1,800 watt spiral oven - about 1 NIS per hour, a 2,000 watt heat spreader - about 1.1 NIS per hour, and a 2,500 watt radiator about 1.4 NIS per hour."

What is the most recommended heating method?

"An air conditioner is the safest, and it is two or three times more economical than heaters. The spiral ovens waste a lot of electricity because they work without a thermostat. Also, they are dangerous because they can cause a fire. If they are placed next to the leg of a wooden table, for example, the leg may be turned on by the heat. On the other hand, the radiator produces pleasant heat without dryness - unlike an air conditioner that can sometimes dry out, but consumes 2-2.5 times the electricity compared to air conditioners. Heat diffusers are a one-stop solution for small rooms, but their electricity consumption is also 2-3 times compared to air conditioners." .

What tips do you have for using the air conditioner in winter?

"You should choose an air conditioner with an energy rating close to A, which is the best and most economical. We recommend in winter to set the air conditioner to 18-20 degrees. Each additional degree will increase consumption by 5%.

"In the winter, we recommend turning the air conditioner shutters down - this maximizes the distribution of air because the heat rises upwards. It is recommended to clean the air conditioner's air vents and filters, which are full of dust accumulated in the summer. When the filters are clogged, the air conditioner works harder, which causes increased electricity consumption. In time The heating also needs to seal off rooms that are not being used, and then areas are reduced."

What other methods help to save electricity?

"It is not advisable to turn on the electric heater that heats the water from the beginning of the winter to the end, but only for an allotted time for showering. We also recommend switching to LED bulbs instead of halogen bulbs. A clothes dryer also consumes electricity. On sunny days, it is recommended to hang the clothes outside."

New and economical

The manufacturers of electrical products for the home have launched quite a few innovations in the field, many of which consume less electricity, including dryers.

"The Electrolux - Perfect Care washer dryer series is energy efficient," says Elia Umansky, product manager at Miniline.

"Washing dryers with Heat Pump technology have a special heat pump that dries the clothes at a lower temperature, which creates savings of up to 70% in electricity consumption."

The new clothes dryer from Electra, model EDR 9988HPW, is equipped with heat pump technology in a closed system of condenser and evaporator, which creates temperature differences inside the dryer and saves up to 80% of electricity consumption.

The price: NIS 2,690 in the electrical warehouse network and on the website.

Samsung's Heat Pump Condenser washer dryer, which is offered in the A.L.M. network.

For NIS 3,657, including digital inverter heat pump technology, with economical laundry drying without the use of a heating element, and energy savings of up to 70% compared to a normal dryer.

Electrolux washer dryers offer energy efficiency of up to 50% less energy consumption compared to regular washer dryers, at a price of NIS 3,690.

Beko recently unveiled the SaveWater technology, found in a washing machine with a dryer.

It was developed to deal with household water waste, and with it the dryer collects the water that accumulates and uses it in the next wash.

There are also quite a few economical innovations in the field of air conditioning: the Flexis series offered by Hayer has an energy rating of A, and the UV light installed in the white model (FLEXIS UV WH) helps clean the air of bacteria and viruses.

With inverter technology, about 30% of electricity consumption is saved compared to a normal air conditioner.

Tadiran's Sense Inverter mini central air conditioner is extremely economical and uses VAF technology - a unique Tadiran development that allows you to control the air regulation, power and temperature in each room separately.

Its price starts at NIS 16,800.

LG launched underfloor heating, which combines radiators and domestic water heating at a temperature of up to 65 degrees.

The smart heating control allows easy and quick use with a simple push of a button, and with its help you can perform daily or monthly monitoring of electricity consumption.

In the area of radiators, the American brand Black & Decker offers a new radiator with a power of 2,000 watts, which is more energy efficient.

According to the manufacturer, the radiator spreads a lot of heat into the room within minutes.

The price: NIS 949.
